Did you know that you can learn to cook like a pro—for free? Many military installations now offer programs that teach cooking skills to active-duty Military Service Members, Veterans, and their families.
Programs vary by installation and include cooking demos, hands-on cooking classes, and culinary sessions as part of healthy-lifestyle programs. Classes range from onetime sessions to a 12-week series. Some classes are geared toward adults, while others feature simple and nutritious recipes for kids or teens. Programs offer different themes (for example, healthy cooking on a budget, fruits and vegetables, or hearty soups) and cooking skills such as meal prep, chopping, and food safety.
How to find a cooking program near you:
Visit your local USO to find events and programs in your area.
Check the health promotion/wellness department at your closest medical treatment facility for nutrition and cooking programs and events.
Shop the commissary and look for a schedule of events and activities.
