Nothing can totally replace actual running if you’re training for a race or PFT, but other activities can help keep your workout routine interesting while improving your cardiovascular health. Running is one of the most beneficial forms of exercise for cardiovascular and overall health. However, people often find themselves injured, “hitting a wall,” or burning out because of too much running. Rather than take a day off, or to mix up your routine, cross-train with other types of endurance exercise. Swimming, biking, rowing, and even dancing are all great forms of endurance activities that will continue to improve your cardiovascular fitness while helping prevent overuse injuries and overtraining.
