Foundational movements: Deadlifts

The deadlift is a relatively simple movement, but it can cause serious problems if done incorrectly. Lifting something off the ground and returning to a standing position requires core and hamstring strength. The most common mistake is trying to lift weight off the ground using your back rather than your legs, which can lead to back injuries. Whether you’re deadlifting a barbell or moving box during your PCS, there are important things to consider, so you can perform the lift/movement correctly.

You can find out more about deadlifts in HPRC’s video series on foundational movements. Watch the videos below to learn how to properly perform two different kinds of deadlifts: conventional deadlift and sumo deadlift.
