Pre-Hospital Cooling

Pre-hospital cooling uses a combination of proven scientific techniques to lower an individual’s core temperature in the field or in advance of emergency medical transport.

Pre-hospital cooling.

Was collapse or disorientation during or immediately (30 minutes) following strenuous activity? If yes, does the individual exhibit any of the following signs and symptoms, such as dizziness, headache, nausea, unsteady walk, muscle cramps, undue fatigue, inappropriate behavior, or aggressiveness? If so, there’s a potential for heat illness. Activate EMS and initiate ice-sheet protocol. If not, treat per unit SOP.

Was collapse or disorientation during or immediately (30 minutes) following strenuous activity? If not, is the individual showing signs of an altered mental status? If so, there’s possible hyponatremia. Activate EMS. If not, treat per unit SOP.
