How does my physical health impact my interest in and ability to have sex?

If you’re concerned about your physical ability to have sex, consider getting a full physical from a doctor. The physical exam should include assessing hormone levels such as testosterone, estrogen, and prolactin. Health conditions such as high cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure, and other heart conditions—and their medications—also can affect sexual drive. In addition, being overweight or obese, lack of sleep, sleep apnea, and some combat injuries can affect sexual interest and ability.
